Microscope 257 (unassigned maker; dissecting microscope; late 19th century)

Dissecting microscope probably dated from the late 19th century. Unusually, the pillar arises from a simple wooden base. The instrument came with its original wooden base. The maker of this instrument is unknown, but its construction is similar to another dissecting microscopes made by R. Field & Co around 1870 (Figure 1).
