Serial numbers of Bausch & Lomb (1876 – 1986)

In 1941, Bausch & Lomb started using serial numbers starting with two letters. The first letter represented the year of manufacture (see table below). The second letter represented the type of instrument: letters B, D, K, L, M, N and P (only for objectives) for microscopes, microtomes and accessories, colorimeters, refractometers, saccharimeters, spectroscopes and spectrometers; and letters E, R and Y for projectors, photomicrographic equipment, micro-projectors and accessories.
